Principal Hydraulic Engineer – Buildings

About the role

AECOM is seeking a Principal (or Associate Director) Hydraulic Engineer to lead hydraulic design on building projects. The role can be based in Sydney or Brisbane and involves working with multidisciplinary teams to deliver sustainable water solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the Hydraulics Lead on a range of building projects, providing technical guidance to junior engineers.
• Deliver hydraulic designs and calculations, conduct technical reviews and sign‑off, and delegate tasks.
• Collaborate with clients and stakeholders to develop cost‑effective hydraulic solutions.
• Support the national Hydraulics team across diverse sectors and complex building projects.

Required profile

• 10+ years of hydraulic engineering experience in a consulting environment.
• Relevant engineering degree or TAFE qualification with RPEQ/RPEV registration or ability to obtain it.
• Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships with clients and project teams.
• Australian citizenship or pathway to citizenship preferred.

Required skills

• Hydraulic design and calculations for rainwater harvesting, sanitary plumbing, drainage, trade waste, potable and non‑potable water reticulation.
• Design of hot and warm water systems, solar hot water, reverse osmosis and demineralised water systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite; Revit experience preferred.
