Primary System Engineer - HV Substations

About the role

The Primary System Engineer is the technical guarantor of the performance of design works for high-voltage (HV) substations, covering committed design budget, deadlines and quality in line with customer expectations. The role promotes ease of installation, operation and maintenance of the system and plans and oversees detailed design activities.

Key responsibilities

• Design and integrate components for HV and MV AIS and GIS substations and power generation in compliance with international and Australian standards
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams on substation layout and design calculations, and develop design specifications supporting procurement
• Manage project strategy, risks and customer relationships, and manage engineering subcontractors for specific work packages
• Deliver engineering documentation for procurement, manufacturing and site erection, and carry out site inspections and factory test witnessing
• Take part in technical and program reviews, and document technical data in line with engineering policies
• Lead EHS: implement the Zero Deviation Plan, identify and mitigate EHS risks, take part in safety visits and give immediate feedback on unsafe behaviour

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in science or engineering, major in electrical engineering
• At least 4-5 years' experience in AC substation engineering, including design, calculation, HV equipment selection and supervision of site testing and commissioning
• Experience leading engineering activities is a plus
• Knowledge of Australian and IEC standards for power systems and equipment
• Ability to travel onsite, expected around 20% depending on business needs
