Practice Manager - Ophthalmology Clinic

About the role

Vision Eye Institute, one of Australia's largest providers of ophthalmic care, is recruiting a Practice Manager for its Chatswood clinic, one of its largest and most dynamic practices. The clinic brings together experienced ophthalmologists, health professionals and support staff across a broad range of specialties, and the Practice Manager leads a multidisciplinary team of 40+ people. The role covers the leadership, performance and day-to-day operations of the consulting and laser clinic.

Key responsibilities

• Build trusted relationships with doctors and understand what drives each of their practices, influencing senior stakeholders and bringing people together around shared outcomes
• Coach and develop Team Leaders, set clear accountability and empower them to lead their teams without escalating every decision to the Practice Manager
• Accountability for clinic performance, workforce planning, patient experience, operational improvement, quality and compliance, and the overall effectiveness of the practice
• Turn ideas into practical improvements during the clinic's period of transition and growth

Required profile

• Demonstrated leadership experience in a large or complex healthcare environment, ideally a specialist medical practice, private hospital, day hospital or similar clinician-led setting
• Ability to work alongside senior medical specialists and other highly experienced stakeholders
• Experience leading teams through change, including reviewing structures, roles, workflows and ways of working
• Experience in ophthalmology or specialist medical practice is highly regarded, though leadership capability and relationship building are more important

Required skills

• Relationship-building, influencing, negotiation and conflict resolution
• Commercial acumen and understanding of the operational drivers of a large healthcare practice
• Ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with competing priorities
