Practice Manager - New General Practice

About the role

Care Medical Practice is looking for a Practice Manager to lead the establishment and day-to-day operation of a new independent general practice in Bassendean, Western Australia. The role reports to the Director and manages reception and administrative staff. Clinical decisions, supervision and professional protocols remain the responsibility of qualified practitioners. The position is full-time, primarily onsite, with terms and remuneration to be agreed.

Key responsibilities

• Establish the practice: coordinate opening readiness across staffing, systems, premises, equipment, policies and training, and set up reception procedures, patient forms, billing processes and operational workflows.
• Recruit and onboard GPs, nurses and administrative staff, and manage practitioner credentials, registrations, insurance, provider numbers and billing setup.
• Run daily clinic operations: appointments, patient enquiries, correspondence, patient feedback, complaints, recalls, reminders, referrals and administrative follow-up, escalating urgent matters to clinical staff.
• Manage administrative rosters, leave, induction, training and performance, and maintain personnel, training and practitioner credential records.
• Oversee Medicare and private billing, rejected claims, payments, debtors and daily reconciliations, and monitor revenue, expenditure, staffing costs and appointment utilisation.
• Assist with budgets, cash flow and monthly operational reporting, and manage purchasing, stock and suppliers within delegated authority.
• Support accreditation, infection prevention, workplace safety, emergency preparedness, privacy and confidentiality, and escalate significant risks.

Required profile

• Experience managing an Australian general practice or substantial senior medical administration experience.
• Experience managing staff, rosters, training and performance.
• Australian work rights and ability to work onsite in Bassendean.
• Desirable: experience establishing a new clinic or expanding an existing practice, and a qualification in practice management, business, health administration or a related field.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of general practice operations, Medicare and private billing and reconciliations.
• Experience with accreditation, policies, quality improvement and confidential patient information.
• Sound financial, supplier and business management skills.
• Strong communication, judgement, organisation and problem-solving skills.
