Practice Manager - 1300SMILES Douglas

About the role

1300SMILES Douglas, located on the James Cook University campus near Townsville University Hospital, is looking for a hands-on Practice Manager. You will take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the practice, supporting your team while keeping an eye on business performance and patient experience, working closely with the clinicians and the Regional Operations Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, coach and support the team, including rostering, setting expectations and having performance conversations
• Manage appointment books and chair utilisation to help the practice meet its targets
• Monitor KPIs, revenue and wage costs and identify ways to improve results
• Coordinate rosters across weekdays and Saturdays
• Oversee health fund claims, HICAPS and Child Dental Benefits Schedule processes
• Support recruitment and onboarding with the recruitment team
• Respond to patient feedback and complaints professionally and fairly
• Ensure the practice meets infection control, work health and safety, privacy and accreditation requirements

Required profile

• Experience leading or managing a team, with the confidence to coach people and address challenges
• Experience managing rosters, workloads and day-to-day operations in a busy environment
• Dental experience is helpful but not essential; the key is the ability to lead a team and keep a business running well
• Willingness to learn new systems, processes and the requirements of the dental industry

• Strong organisation and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritise when busy
• Clear communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships
• A fair, hands-on leadership style that balances accountability with recognition
