Platform Engineering Manager

About the role

The Platform Engineering Manager leads the operational management of a 24/7 mission‑critical platform, covering compute, storage, virtualization, backup and Linux systems. The role combines technical and people leadership to ensure reliable, secure and high‑performing infrastructure services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical and people leadership for a multi‑disciplinary team supporting Linux systems and infrastructure engineering.
• Maintain platform availability through incident management, on‑call leadership and escalation of high‑impact issues.
• Own end‑to‑end operational accountability for platform services delivered by in‑house teams and Managed Service Partners.
• Drive governance, service‑level management and compliance with the Australian Government ISM and related frameworks.
• Collaborate with cloud, connectivity, HPC and application teams to support integrated service delivery.
• Manage lifecycle activities such as patching, upgrades and refreshes, and oversee vendor relationships, procurement and a significant operational budget.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading large, 24/7 platform or infrastructure teams.
• Strong understanding of ITIL‑aligned service management practices.
• Experience working with Managed Service Partners and handling complex, high‑impact incidents.
