Plant Operator / General Hand – Road Maintenance

About the role

The Shire of Wyalkatchem is looking for two full-time team members to join its Works Team, maintaining the shire's roads and community spaces. One person will mainly operate a grader during the grading season and carry out road and drainage maintenance; the other will be a general plant operator and may drive a truck, roller or loader. Both roles also cover a range of other works and duties.

Key responsibilities

• Operate plant for road construction and maintenance works
• Carry out road, drainage and infrastructure maintenance
• Operate other plant and equipment as required
• Assist with general works, construction and maintenance tasks
• Inspect plant routinely and carry out basic maintenance
• Ensure all work is done safely and in line with policies and procedures

Required profile

• Ability to work as part of a team, follow instructions and finish work on time
• Current Construction White Card
• Good organisational, problem-solving and communication skills, with awareness of work health and safety requirements
• Minimum HC licence (MC class highly desirable)

Desirable

• Final trim
• Experience in road, drainage and maintenance
• Local government or contracting experience in road maintenance
• Plant operation experience and knowledge of plant maintenance
