Peer Family Support Worker (Part Time)

About the role

Wellways is hiring a part-time Peer Family Support Worker in Townsville, Queensland (about 30.4 hours per week). The role supports carers, families and friends of people at risk of suicide through the Support for Families, Friends and Significant Others of People at Risk of Suicide program. It is a peer-led, community-based position offering carer peer connection in crisis, practical resources, peer support groups including educational sessions, proactive follow-up, service navigation and advocacy.

Key responsibilities

• Link participants with other community support services
• Provide gentle psychoeducational tools and guidance to help people understand how they feel and what matters in their recovery journey
• Deliver carer peer support focused on mutual understanding and psychoeducation on care approaches that work during a crisis

Required profile

• Lived experience of supporting a loved one with suicidal ideation, crisis and/or suicide attempts
• Relevant qualifications or commensurate experience in a support role for people with mental health conditions
• Satisfactory police record check, Blue Card (Working with Children Check) and NDIS Worker Screening Check
• Right to work in Australia

• Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to interact effectively with people from a wide range of backgrounds

• Pay scale SCHADS Level 3B ($40.49 - $43.42) plus superannuation and salary packaging benefits
