About the role
Join Macquarie University’s Shared Services team as a Payroll Governance Specialist, ensuring compliance and accurate pay outcomes for thousands of staff. You will be the subject‑matter expert on payroll legislation, controls and risk management across the university group.
Key responsibilities
- Partner with Payroll Services, Finance and stakeholders to uphold financial integrity, statutory reporting and audit obligations.
- Ensure payroll controls follow the Payroll Governance Framework and comply with enterprise agreements, modern awards and taxation laws.
- Validate system configurations and access rights in Dayforce aPay, Workday, Kronos and related applications.
- Review and improve payroll processes, identify risks and drive continuous improvement.
- Coordinate internal and external audits, manage audit recommendations and report to governance committees.
- Lead payroll projects, including wage remediation, data analysis and stakeholder communications.
Required profile
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in business, accounting, HR or equivalent experience in payroll governance.
- Extensive experience in high‑volume payroll operations with diverse awards and enterprise agreements.
- Proven track record establishing and improving payroll controls, risk and assurance frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of employment legislation, superannuation, PAYG, payroll tax, Single Touch Payroll and workers compensation.

What we offer
- Full‑time, 2‑year fixed‑term contract with a salary of $147,124 – $155,386 per annum plus 17% superannuation and leave loading.
