Payroll Controller

About the role

Pullman East Melbourne, a 419-room hotel in Melbourne, is looking for an accomplished Payroll Controller to take full ownership of payroll across the hotel. Reporting to the Director of Finance and working closely with the Director of People & Culture, the role is the hotel's authority on pay, leave and payroll systems. It is also a key part of the launch of a new single integrated payroll platform, moving from Humanforce and WageEasy to Zambion / Ready Workforce.

Key responsibilities

• Own the full payroll cycle for salaried, full-time, part-time and casual colleagues with consistent accuracy and timeliness
• Apply the Hospitality Industry (General) Award 2020, interpreting penalties, overtime, allowances and leave correctly
• Protect compliance across STP Phase 2, PAYG, superannuation, Victorian payroll tax and WorkCover
• Run payroll controls including regular audits and annualised salary reconciliations, resolving issues decisively
• Act as system owner for Payroll and HRIS, improving it, adding automation and simplifying processes
• Provide leaders with payroll journals, accruals, leave liability and labour-cost reporting
• Advise leaders and colleagues on pay matters clearly, sensitively and with discretion

Required profile

• Proven end-to-end payroll background (typically 3 to 5+ years) in a complex, high-volume or shift-based business, preferably in a hotel environment
• Deep knowledge of the Hospitality Award, the Fair Work Act and the National Employment Standards
• Thorough understanding of Victorian payroll tax, WorkCover, superannuation and Single Touch Payroll obligations
• Experience in hospitality or premium hotels, or a Certificate IV in Payroll, highly regarded

Required skills

• Hands-on experience with payroll and time and attendance systems (Zambion / Ready Workforce highly regarded)
• Advanced Excel and analytical skills
• Attention to detail, sound judgement, integrity and confidentiality
