Pastoral Care Volunteer - Residential Care

About the role

HammondCare, an independent Christian charity, offers pastoral care volunteers the chance to support the spiritual and emotional needs of elderly people living in its aged care home. You will act as a Christian actively involved with a local Christian church, offering comfort, presence and hope. You will supplement and complement the work of the Residential Pastoral Care Coordinator, working under their direction.

Key responsibilities

• Support people to meet their spiritual needs
• Assist clients with a diagnosis of dementia to engage in spiritual care
• Nurture spiritual development
• Visit residents regularly, for a few hours each time, between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday; visits can be weekly or fortnightly depending on availability

Required profile

• Christian actively involved with a local Christian church in the area
• High level of interpersonal skills, including strong empathy and listening skills
• Pastoral Care training such as Chaplaincy or Clinical Pastoral Education, or willingness to attend HammondCare pastoral care training
• Completion of the Spiritual Care Series, in preparation for becoming a pastoral care volunteer
• 18 years or older
• NDIS Worker Screening Check arranged and paid for by HammondCare
