Part-Time Radiation Oncology Nurse (Parental Leave)

About the role

Icon Cancer Centre Geelong is recruiting a Registered Nurse for an 8-month part-time parental leave position, working 2 days per week (Monday to Friday) so that nights and weekends remain free. The nurse provides care to patients receiving radiotherapy and reports to the Nurse Manager, with a high degree of autonomy within a supportive, multi-disciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Provide patient-centred radiation oncology cancer care to patients and their families, meeting their needs in a timely and empathetic way
• Assess, review and implement care plans for patients receiving treatment
• Monitor and treat patients for illness, lymphoedema or other side effects
• Maintain standards by following best-practice protocols and clinical guidelines
• Give expert advice and demonstrate up-to-date nursing knowledge and skill in line with legislation and professional standards
• Support the Nurse Manager in day-to-day operations and help implement new systems, therapies and clinical trials
• Provide education, support patients with physical side effects and emotional support, and refer to allied health

Required profile

• Current AHPRA nursing registration
• Radiation Oncology or Medical Oncology experience highly desirable; backgrounds in high-acuity care, immunocompromised patient management, wound care or palliative care are welcomed
• Experience in a multi-disciplinary, patient-centred environment
• Interest in cancer care nursing and professional development
• Ability to document patient experiences and give feedback to doctors and nurse managers
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to learn multiple clinical administration systems
