Operations Manager - Novar Gardens

About the role

BlueScope Building Components, a division of BlueScope in Australia that makes and markets steel building products under the brands Lysaght, Fielders, Ranbuild and Kiteleys, is looking for an Operations Manager for its Novar Gardens site. The site is a fast-paced, 24-hour-a-day, five-days-a-week operation running across three shifts, producing a wide range of steel building products. Reporting to the State Manager, you will lead four direct reports across production, transport, maintenance and operations support, with responsibility for about 130 employees on site, and occasionally provide after-hours support for escalated safety or operational matters.

Key responsibilities

• Lead safety performance: safe work practices, accountability and leadership on site safety requirements and incident escalation
• Foster a high-performing, inclusive team and build team capability
• Manage operational delivery across production (over 48 lines), transport (over 30 vehicles leaving daily) and maintenance, delivering quality, productivity and on-time results
• Oversee operational costs, maintenance, productivity and delivery, including operational and capital expenditure budgets
• Improve processes, production planning and responsiveness to customers
• Support capital investment projects by developing business cases and overseeing project planning and implementation

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years' experience in operations management, ideally in manufacturing, processing or a similar complex environment
• Tertiary qualification in Operations Management, Business, Engineering, Supply Chain or a related discipline
• Experience leading safety and production performance across operational teams
• Ability to coach teams, manage competing priorities and engage stakeholders at all levels
• Experience improving operational processes and using performance data to solve problems
