Network & Systems Administrator

About the role

We are looking for a tech‑savvy Network & Systems Administrator to be the technical backbone of IT support across Freelancer’s global offices. Based in Sydney, you will own end‑to‑end IT services, act as the senior escalation point and continuously improve our infrastructure with resource‑efficient, open‑source solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide L1‑L3 support for Sydney HQ and remote offices (Manila, London, Vancouver, San Francisco), handling escalations that other staff cannot resolve.
• Run monitoring and alerting, respond to incidents, and keep multi‑site services healthy.
• Manage backups and recovery for Synology NAS, VM images and off‑site/cloud copies, ensuring verifiable restores.
• Administer Google Workspace across multiple domains (users, groups, Shared Drives, licensing, security, onboarding/off‑boarding).
• Maintain office network infrastructure – OPNsense/pfSense firewalls (HA/CARP), IPsec VPNs, VLANs and UniFi wireless.
• Identify gaps, scope fixes and deliver solutions independently, favouring open‑source tooling and scripting.
• Keep asset inventory and documentation up to date and collaborate with other departments on technology needs.

Required profile

• Proactive problem‑solver with strong ownership and the ability to work autonomously.
• Excellent communication skills for customer‑facing support across time zones.
• Experience in senior‑level escalation and infrastructure maintenance.

Required skills

• Google Workspace administration (including GAM).
• OPNsense and pfSense firewalls, HA/CARP configuration.
• IPsec VPN, VLAN and UniFi wireless management.
• Synology NAS backup and VM image recovery.
• Infrastructure‑as‑code tools such as Terraform and Puppet.
