Mid Level Accountant (Remote)

About the role

This is a remote position for a mid-level accountant who will support a client's bookkeeping and reporting needs. The role covers accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, payroll and superannuation, month-end reporting and Australian compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Accounts payable and receivable: enter supplier invoices and purchase orders, process payments, create and issue invoices, send payment reminders, prepare payment schedules and ABA files.
• Reconciliations: perform bank, balance sheet, inter-entity loan and operational reconciliations, and investigate discrepancies and variances.
• Payroll and superannuation: process payroll and superannuation payments, and prepare superannuation summaries.
• Month-end and reporting: prepare month-end accounts, management reports and supporting worksheets, and review profit and loss and balance sheet reports.
• Australian compliance: prepare instalment activity statements and business activity statements (BAS).
• Client and team communication: gather information from clients, work with the existing bookkeeping team, attend regular team meetings and carry out other assigned tasks.

Required profile

• Previous accounting and/or bookkeeping experience, preferably with Australian taxation entities.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Commerce, Finance or a related field preferred.
• Previous audit experience desirable.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with a remote team.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of Australian accounting and taxation concepts and terminology.
• Experience with Xero and Xero Tax; experience with Australian BAS, GST and PAYG requirements, or the ability to learn them.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Good written and verbal communication, attention to detail and accuracy.
• Adobe Acrobat Pro is desirable; Microsoft Teams is used for team communication.
