Mental Health & Independent Living Disability Support Worker

About the role

Lumia Care Sydney is seeking a dedicated Mental Health Support Worker to provide specialised, trauma-informed care to clients with complex mental health needs, including those experiencing suicidal ideation and self-harming behaviours. The role is casual, with flexible hours and a wide variety of shifts, and involves working closely with a broader care team while building trust and consistency with clients.

Key responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, trauma-informed support to clients with complex mental health needs
• Support daily routines and structured activities that promote recovery and stability
• Assist with transport to appointments and community access
• Encourage independence, emotional resilience and wellbeing
• Communicate with multidisciplinary teams and escalate concerns when required

Required profile

• Certificate IV or Diploma in Mental Health (or relevant qualification) - mandatory
• Proven experience supporting individuals with suicidal ideation and self-harming behaviours
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• A calm, empathetic and non-judgmental approach, with strong reliability and ability to build trust with clients
• Valid driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle
• Availability to commit to regular shifts
• Current First Aid Certificate, Police Check, NDIS Worker Screening Check and Working with Children Check; full Australian work rights
