About the role

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) at Apellis is a field‑based scientific position focused on building peer‑to‑peer relationships with ophthalmology experts across New South Wales and Queensland. The role supports the company’s ophthalmology program, providing up‑to‑date medical information and facilitating scientific exchange.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain relationships with key ophthalmology thought leaders.
• Serve as a scientific resource for external experts and internal stakeholders.
• Support scientific exchange, conference engagement, and medical education initiatives.
• Contribute to publications, advisory boards, and training programs.
• Provide clinical insights and field intelligence to inform medical strategy.
• Assist clinical development activities such as site identification and feasibility assessments.
• Create regional tactical plans aligned with the medical strategy.
• Collaborate with commercial, market access, and medical teams while ensuring compliance.
• Document and report MSL activities with high quality.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in a health or medical science field (e.g., MD, PhD, BPharm, BOptom, BOrth, BSc).
• Post‑graduate degree (Master’s or PhD) highly desirable.
• 1–3 years of experience in Medical Affairs or a Medical Science role.
• Strong scientific and business acumen with an understanding of ophthalmology.
• Ability to stay current with emerging disease‑state data.
