Mechanical Maintainer - Rolling Stock

About the role

Rio Tinto is seeking a Mechanical Maintainer to join its Rolling Stock Maintenance team at the Cape Lambert Rail Maintenance Facility in Wickham. You will carry out planned and breakdown maintenance on locomotive and brake car assets, supporting the reliability and performance of the rolling stock. The role reports to the Supervisor Rolling Stock Maintenance and suits a motivated tradesperson wanting to grow within Rio Tinto's rail operations.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned, preventative and breakdown maintenance on locomotive and brake car assets.
• Perform fault finding and troubleshooting on mechanical and electrical systems.
• Undertake component change-outs during maintenance and repair.
• Use SAP to capture and record maintenance activities.
• Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and work practices.
• Work with maintenance and operations teams to achieve team objectives.
• Ensure all maintenance is completed safely and in line with company standards and legislative requirements.

Required profile

• Mechanical trade qualification.
• Current Australian Manual C class driver's licence.
• Experience in heavy haulage rail or heavy mobile equipment maintenance.
• Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting ability.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
• Team player with a positive attitude focused on continuous improvement.

Helpful to have

• Previous locomotive, rolling stock or wagon maintenance experience.
• Exposure to SAP or similar maintenance management systems.
• Forklift licence, overhead crane, dogging or rigging tickets.
• Experience in large-scale industrial maintenance.
