Mechanical Fitter (Steel Processing)

About the role

InfraBuild Reinforcing, a 2026 AFR BOSS Best Places to Work Gold Winner and World Steel Association Sustainability Champion, is hiring a Fitter in Sunshine, Victoria. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you will maintain, repair and optimise mechanical systems critical to steel processing and heavy industrial operations, working with large-scale equipment such as hydraulics, pneumatics and processing machinery. Hours suit work/life balance: 6am to 2:10pm Monday to Friday, with overtime available.

Key responsibilities

• Perform fault-finding, repairs and preventative maintenance on heavy industrial equipment
• Diagnose mechanical failures and implement engineering solutions to maximise uptime and efficiency
• Install, test and commission new equipment in workshop and on-site environments
• Carry out routine servicing, overhauls and refurbishments of steel and processing plant and equipment
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics and specifications for fabrication and assembly
• Deliver all work safely and in line with InfraBuild standards

Required profile

• Trade qualification as a Mechanical Fitter, Fitter & Turner or equivalent
• At least 5 years' experience in mechanical fitting within steel, FMCG, heavy industry or industrial engineering
• Proven ability to diagnose faults, carry out overhauls and run preventative maintenance
• Ability to read drawings and work independently or in a team
• Commitment to quality, safety and continuous improvement
• Tickets and licenses such as driver's licence, forklift, working at heights and crane are highly regarded
• Ability to lead teams and projects safely and to budget

Required skills

• MIG welding
• Valves, pumps, actuators, hydraulics and heavy plant equipment
• Reading engineering drawings and schematics

• Pay of $52.00-$60.00 depending on skills and experience, plus 12% super, bonus and overtime
