Mechanical Engineer – Water Infrastructure

About the role

SMEC is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its Water Infrastructure team in Brisbane. The role offers the chance to work on pump stations, water treatment facilities and related projects, supporting both local and international assignments.

Key responsibilities

• Assist senior engineers with analysis, design production, and calculations for water infrastructure projects.
• Contribute to bid preparation and provide technical input across all engineering disciplines.
• Ensure designs meet technical standards, client requirements, and SMEC quality guidelines.
• Collaborate with team members, contributors and stakeholders to deliver project deliverables on time and to quality standards.
• Support commercial success of projects by applying project‑management principles and maintaining client relationships.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 2 years of design experience in water infrastructure (e.g., pump stations, water treatment).
• Experience in an engineering design consultancy is preferred.
• Strong analytical abilities and a willingness to expand technical knowledge.

Required skills

• Proficiency with 12d design software.
