Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Hanwha Defence Australia is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to contribute to mechanical design and engineering activities across defined project phases. The role involves managing work packages to meet client expectations for design quality, budget, and schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with clients, engineers, and internal staff to deliver project requirements.
• Produce design documentation, technical specifications, and drawings using CATIA.
• Perform mechanical and computational calculations and conduct quality‑assurance reviews of engineering work.
• Implement system designs in line with Hanwha Defence Australia standards.
• Liaise with external parties such as contractors, suppliers, and subcontractors.
• Travel to subcontractor and test locations as required.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Engineering (mandatory).
• Eligibility for an Australian Government security clearance (Australian citizenship required).
• Professional experience in mechanical engineering, preferably within the defence industry on large‑scale programmes.
• Knowledge of military standards and vehicle development regulations is desirable.
• Chartered Professional Engineer status with Engineers Australia is advantageous.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CATIA for 3D modelling and drawing production.
• Experience using a PLM system to manage product lifecycle data.
• Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and best practices.
