Mechanical Design Engineer – Mining & Industrial Equipment

About the role

IMS Australia is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to create and optimise mechanical systems for mining and industrial equipment. You will work on innovative projects, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to deliver safe, compliant, and high‑performance solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and optimise mechanical components and systems for mining and industrial equipment.
• Create detailed 3D models, engineering drawings and technical specifications using CAD software.
• Perform structural, stress and thermal analysis to validate designs.
• Work closely with fabrication, maintenance and operations teams to ensure manufacturability and serviceability.
• Support failure analysis and root‑cause investigations to improve reliability.
• Ensure designs comply with Australian Standards, ISO and other relevant regulations.
• Collaborate with clients and internal stakeholders to capture project requirements.
• Conduct site visits to assess equipment performance and identify improvements.
• Assist in preparing technical documentation, manuals and reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 3 years of mechanical design experience, preferably in mining, heavy equipment or industrial applications.
• Strong problem‑solving ability and attention to detail.
• Ability to interpret and apply Australian Standards and ISO codes.

Required skills

• SolidWorks, AutoCAD or Inventor (CAD software).
• Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and engineering simulations.
• Materials science, welding and fabrication processes.
• Hydraulics, pneumatics and mechanical systems used in mining equipment.
