Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Brooks Automation is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the creation of high‑quality machinery solutions for laboratory automation. You will work in a fast‑paced, innovative environment supporting semiconductor and life‑science markets.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design and development of machinery, from concept through detailed CAD models in PTC Creo, 2D manufacturing drawings, prototype builds, testing, validation, and transfer to manufacturing.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, customers, and suppliers to drive new product development and support existing product lines.
• Create and maintain technical documentation for design, manufacturing, and compliance.
• Prototype and test mechanical designs to ensure performance, reliability, and industry‑standard compliance.
• Provide hands‑on technical guidance to manufacturing and assembly, resolving design‑related issues.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Mechanical, Medical, Mechatronics Engineering or a related discipline.
• 7+ years of product design engineering experience, preferably with electro‑mechanical components such as motors, gears, pulleys, and sensors.
• Proven ability to manage projects from concept through production release, work autonomously, and deliver results on schedule.
• Strong communication, detail orientation, and a proactive approach to mentoring junior staff.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency with PTC Creo for 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation.
• Knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack‑up analysis.
• Experience designing custom mechanical parts and assemblies.
• Understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and how they influence design decisions.
• Expertise in electro‑mechanical component design (motors, gears, pulleys, sensors).
