Mechanic All Rounder

About the role

Captain Cook Cruises, part of Journey Beyond, is looking for a Mechanic All Rounder to keep its Sydney Harbour fleet safe, reliable and ready to sail. The role suits a mechanic who enjoys variety and is trusted to get on with the job: one day a planned service, the next chasing down a fault before the afternoon cruise. You plan your own work, make the call on repairs and see jobs through from first spanner to sign-off.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair and maintain marine diesel engines, generators, pumps, hydraulics and other vessel machinery
• Carry out planned and preventative maintenance to keep vessels safe, compliant and on schedule
• Respond quickly to breakdowns and defects, working independently to get vessels back in service
• Plan and prioritise your own workload, balancing urgent repairs against scheduled maintenance
• Record work orders, defects, parts and labour accurately in MEX
• Manage parts and workshop inventory and let the team know what needs ordering
• Work with vessel crews and the marine team to understand issues and keep operations running to schedule
• Keep the workshop tidy and safe, following safe work practices and reporting hazards, incidents and near-misses

Required profile

• Experienced, qualified mechanic who is comfortable diagnosing and owning a job
• Keeps tidy records and communicates clearly
• Comfortable with both planned services and urgent breakdowns on a busy day
• First Aid Certificate desirable

Required skills

• Certificate III (or equivalent) in a mechanical trade (essential)
• Marine diesel or Scania experience is an advantage; diesel or heavy vehicle mechanics are welcome
