Maintenance Officer / General Hand (Traffic Control)

About the role

Inspired Education is recruiting a Maintenance Officer / General Hand (Traffic Control) for Reddam House, a school in North Sydney. The role keeps the school's buildings, grounds and equipment in good condition so that staff, students and visitors have a safe, clean and welcoming environment. It covers daily traffic control, event support and general handyman and groundskeeping work.

Key responsibilities

• Traffic control during drop-off and pick-up (7:45am-9:00am and 2:40pm-3:45pm): manage vehicle and pedestrian flow, ensure safe crossings and coordinate with school staff.
• Event support: help set up assemblies, presentations and exams, and set up basic AV equipment such as microphones, projectors, screens and laptops.
• Daily operational checks: walk through the school to spot and fix issues such as lighting, signage, access points and fire egress points.
• Grounds maintenance, including sports line marking and upkeep of groundskeeping machinery.
• Building repairs and maintenance, addressing safety and hygiene issues and supporting inspections.
• Oversee the storage, delivery and relocation of school equipment and furniture.
• Monitor and report safety risks, assist with access control and building security checks, and keep detailed maintenance records.

Required profile

• Previous experience in maintenance, handyman or groundskeeping, preferably in an educational setting.
• Understanding of health and safety regulations in facilities management.
• Experience with machinery and tools for gardening, building maintenance and repairs.
• Familiarity with facilities management software and record keeping.
• Good communication skills and ability to work independently and in a team.
• Willingness to work occasional after-hours shifts and to lift heavy items and perform physically demanding work.

Required skills

• Traffic control qualification or experience, or willingness to obtain one.
• AV system experience highly desirable.
