Locomotive Maintainer – Rail Maintenance

About the role

Gemco Rail is seeking experienced Locomotive Maintainers to join its Dynon facility. In this hands‑on role you will inspect, maintain, fault‑find and repair diesel locomotives and associated equipment, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards. You will work within a skilled, safety‑focused team in a fast‑paced rail environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform repairs on locomotives and associated equipment.
• Participate in modification programmes, equipment re‑conditioning, fault finding, testing and respond to derailments or mishaps.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety and efficiency.
• Complete all required documentation accurately, thoroughly and on time.
• Report to the Depot Supervisor and collaborate closely with the Dynon team.

Required profile

• Trade qualification such as Mechanical Fitter & Turner, Boilermaker, Diesel Mechanic, Electrical Fitter or equivalent.
• Medically fit and physically capable of performing the duties.
• Willingness to work rosters, shift work and reasonable overtime, including weekends.
• High level of trade and industry experience.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Self‑motivated and willing to undertake training to become multi‑skilled.
• Ability to understand and comply with Rail Safety and Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
• Current Australian driver’s licence.
