Library Concierge

About the role

RMIT is looking for a Library Concierge to deliver a high level of customer service at its library sites' service points and to carry out physical maintenance of the collections. Staff may be asked to do physical collections work or a mix of these tasks in any rostered shift, and must open and close library spaces. The role may also involve working across the Library on projects and programs.

Key responsibilities

• Provide concierge services to Library users, such as answering directional queries, giving orientation and referring them to other Library Services
• Offer ad hoc assistance or referrals to users in public collections spaces
• Help ensure customers have timely access to well-maintained physical collections
• Contribute to shelving and retrieval of collection materials, including returns and holds
• Take part in group or team collection maintenance projects as directed by Senior Officers
• Collect and process items from pick lists and enter straightforward data

Required profile

• Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service, including effective verbal communication and rapport building, to a diverse audience
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Open to RMIT students enrolled until mid-2028; students may work at the City, Bundoora, Brunswick or Carlton campuses or the CARM store at Bundoora for project work

Required skills

• Knowledge of safe manual handling processes in libraries is desirable; training provided
• Understanding of the Dewey Decimal classification system is desirable; training provided
