Legal Specialist – Workers Compensation Claims

About the role

EML is seeking a Legal Specialist to join its Self‑Insured Business Unit in Perth. You will apply your legal expertise and deep knowledge of workers’ compensation to manage and resolve complex claims, including litigation and disputed statutory matters.

Key responsibilities

• Manage common‑law claims where workers pursue damages, coordinating with external legal panel firms.
• Oversee disputed statutory claims through the WorkCover WA dispute resolution process, including conciliation and arbitration.
• Handle legally complex claims and undertake legal project work.
• Provide expert legal guidance to self‑insured claims teams and policy holders.
• Represent EML in legal proceedings alongside external counsel.
• Monitor emerging case law and embed insights into claims practice.

Required profile

• Legal qualification or strong relevant industry experience.
• In‑depth knowledge of workers’ compensation legislation and regulations.
• Experience in a legal, insurer, regulatory or self‑insurance environment.
• Proven ability to draft legal documents such as notices and submissions.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and analytical skills.
