Legal Counsel – University Legal, Risk & Compliance

About the role

Join Swinburne’s Legal, Risk and Compliance team as a Legal Counsel. You will provide strategic, pragmatic legal advice that supports decision‑making and manages legal risk across the university.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver legal advice on regulatory and integrity matters, including privacy, freedom of information, human rights, equal opportunity and administrative law.
• Review and develop policies and procedures to ensure compliance with statutory obligations.
• Engage with internal stakeholders and external parties to achieve defensible, compliant outcomes.
• Support dispute resolution, liaise with external legal advisors and insurers as required.
• Contribute to legal operations improvements and service‑oriented initiatives.

Required profile

• Admission to practice law in Victoria.
• 2‑4 years post‑qualification legal experience, preferably in a complex public‑sector environment.
• Experience representing clients in courts or tribunals.
• Strong statutory interpretation and regulatory advisory skills.
• Interest in higher‑education sector and ability to work collaboratively.
