Legal Counsel – Corporate & Governance

About the role

KordaMentha is seeking a proactive, commercially‑minded lawyer to join its Governance and Corporation Operations team. Working closely with the General Counsel, you will provide practical, solution‑focused legal support across contracts, operations, regulatory compliance, governance initiatives, transactions and strategic projects.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements.
• Provide timely legal advice on operational, contractual, compliance, risk and governance matters.
• Assist with governance, risk and compliance activities, including policy drafting, regulatory change management, board and regulatory reporting, and records management.
• Support specialist areas such as financial services, funds management, property, construction, leasing, intellectual property and employment.
• Continuously improve legal templates, workflows, policies and processes.
• Coordinate external counsel and manage the provision of legal services.

Required profile

• 2‑4 years of experience with an unsupervised practising certificate.
• Background in commercial law and corporate advisory.
• Interest or experience in regulatory compliance, financial services, funds management, property or employment law.
• Strong legal drafting, research and analytical abilities.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
