Legal Counsel (Australia & New Zealand)

About the role

As a Legal Counsel for Egis in Australia and New Zealand, you will provide practical, commercially‑focused legal support across contracts, project delivery, risk management, compliance and disputes. Reporting to the Managing Legal Counsel – ANZ, you will work closely with business leaders, project teams and commercial stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Review, draft and negotiate consultancy agreements, sub‑contracts, NDAs and supplier agreements in line with Egis’ risk profile and delegations.
• Provide timely, commercially pragmatic advice on project delivery, procurement and operational matters.
• Support project teams with contract interpretation, risk assessment and dispute resolution, including claims and insurer notifications.
• Maintain and update legal templates, playbooks and standard documentation.
• Conduct legal reviews of bids, tenders and major project pursuits.
• Promote legal and commercial awareness across the business and collaborate with APAC and Group Legal teams.

Required profile

• Admitted legal practitioner in Australia or New Zealand with 3–5+ years post‑qualification experience, preferably in construction, infrastructure, engineering consultancy or professional services.
• Strong knowledge of contract law, risk management and compliance principles.
• Experience with disputes, claims, litigation or insurance matters is advantageous.
• Practical, commercial mindset with the ability to work in ambiguous situations and balance risk with business outcomes.
• Self‑starter attitude, able to work autonomously in a fast‑paced, matrixed environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of building relationships across technical and non‑technical teams.
