Legal Counsel - Australia and New Zealand

About the role

Nordex, a wind energy company committed to the energy transition, is looking for a Legal Counsel for Australia and New Zealand. You will act as a trusted business partner, supporting the development, construction and service of wind energy projects across the region, working closely with senior leaders and cross-functional teams. The role covers major project contracts, corporate governance, compliance and dispute management.

Key responsibilities

• Draft and negotiate client contracts, including complex supply and installation, EPC and operation and maintenance contracts for wind farms.
• Provide continuous legal support to project management, operations, services and procurement, reviewing claims arising from agreements with customers and suppliers in SAAPAC countries.
• Assess contractual and commercial risks in contracts and report them to management for approval.
• Support corporate governance and company secretarial matters for group entities in the region, ensuring compliance with corporate laws, internal governance requirements and group policies.
• Advise on changes in renewable energy legislation and regulation across SAAPAC countries and their impact on operations.
• Coordinate with and manage relationships with external firms handling local legal issues.

Required profile

• Law degree and 7+ years of post-qualification experience in commercial, construction, energy, infrastructure or engineering law.
• Minimum 3 years supporting renewable energy or construction projects, preferably in an international environment.
• Experience in a leading law firm and/or multinational corporation.
• Proven track record drafting, negotiating and managing complex commercial agreements (EPC, BoP, sale and purchase, service and maintenance).
• Able to lead legal matters independently from negotiation through to project completion.
• Strong commercial acumen, risk assessment and stakeholder management skills; native or advanced professional English and willingness to travel.
