Lead Data Scientist

About the role

Quantium, in partnership with Woolworths Group (wiq), is seeking a Lead Data Scientist to drive analytical excellence and strategic innovation for Woolworths. You will develop and implement cutting‑edge data science and AI solutions that create measurable business value.

Key responsibilities

• Lead delivery of data science projects, ensuring high‑quality solutions that address complex data challenges.
• Manage and mentor a small technical team of 3–5 analysts, fostering their growth through coaching and knowledge sharing.
• Maintain strong stakeholder relationships from SMEs to senior executives, aligning technical solutions with business objectives.
• Translate technical concepts and analytical insights into clear recommendations for non‑technical audiences.
• Apply Generative AI techniques to improve analytical productivity and solution quality.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading data science initiatives in a retail or similar large‑scale environment.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills across various organisational levels.
• Strong communication and presentation abilities, capable of simplifying complex AI concepts.

Required skills

• Advanced SQL for complex data querying.
• Proficient Python programming for data manipulation and modelling.
• Experience with large‑scale data processing and cloud platforms such as GCP, Azure, or Databricks.
• Understanding of Generative AI applications in analytics.
