Lawyer – Youth Justice Services

About the role

Legal Aid Queensland is seeking a dedicated lawyer to join its Youth Justice Services team. You will represent legally aided clients in criminal law matters, focusing on youth offenders in the Magistrates and Children’s Courts.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and present cases for bail applications, pleas, summary trials, and committal hearings.
• Provide duty lawyer services, including representation for clients in custody.
• Offer legal information and advice to clients and the public.
• Contribute to policy development, law reform initiatives, and service delivery improvements.
• Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders and ensure compliance with quality and case‑management standards.

Required profile

• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in criminal law preparation, representation and advocacy.
• Familiarity with relevant legal practice, procedures and ethical standards.
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including clients with complex needs, using trauma‑informed principles.
• Strong self‑management, collaborative work style and willingness to contribute to team planning.
