Lawyer – WorkCover Team (Queensland Public Sector)

About the role

The WorkCover Team defends complex workers' compensation claims for the Queensland Government and provides related legal advice. As a Lawyer you will deliver expert counsel, manage high‑stakes matters and build long‑term client partnerships within the team.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on workers' compensation and related legislative matters.
• Defend complex workers' compensation claims on behalf of the Queensland Government.
• Advise government agencies on legal risks associated with workers' compensation.
• Manage cases from inception to resolution, ensuring compliance and effective risk mitigation.
• Develop and maintain long‑term client relationships within the WorkCover portfolio.

Required profile

• Admission to practice as a lawyer in Queensland.
• Experience in workers' compensation, government legal work, or a closely related area.
• Strong analytical ability and professional judgement for complex matters.
• Commitment to public service and the values of integrity, excellence, respect and responsibility.

Required skills

• Legal research and case management.
• Negotiation and advocacy in complex claims.
• Drafting of legal documents and advice notes.
• In‑depth knowledge of Queensland workers' compensation legislation.
• Risk assessment and mitigation.
