Laravel Engineer

About the role

Superhero, an Australian investment and superannuation platform serving over 470,000 self-directed investors, is looking for a Laravel Engineer to join its engineering team. You will work across the full development lifecycle: designing and shipping features, optimising performance at scale and maintaining code quality. AI coding tools are part of how the team works, and you should use them confidently and know when to override them.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain scalable features for the core Laravel applications, setting technical standards across the team
• Use AI coding tools to speed delivery, then rigorously test and review code before production
• Review peers' code manually and with AI assistance, focusing on performance, security and maintainability
• Collaborate with frontend developers, SRE and QA engineers
• Optimise database queries (MariaDB/MySQL), Redis caching and queue workers, and implement monitoring and logging
• Write unit and integration tests for critical financial workflows and keep the codebase documented
• Implement security practices and champion emerging Laravel and PHP tools

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of hands-on Laravel development
• Proven experience with relational databases (MySQL or PostgreSQL)
• Practical experience using AI coding assistants such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills; attention to detail and customer focus
• Right to work in Australia; sponsorship not available
