LAP Traineeship - Administration Officer

About the role

Rio Tinto is looking for a Local Aboriginal Persons (LAP) Support Officer Trainee for its Northern Operations in Weipa, Far North Queensland. This is an 18-month fixed-term contract, Monday to Friday day shift only, supporting efficient and effective customer service and administrative work within a team.

Key responsibilities

• Provide general administrative and event coordination support, with attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
• Use business software to prepare correspondence, reports, presentations, agendas and minutes
• Coordinate business travel, meeting arrangements and track expenses
• Maintain files, records, calendars and diaries
• Work in a dynamic environment with multiple priorities, collaboratively and confidentially

Required profile

• Current driver's licence
• LAP status approval
• Excellent customer service, administration and organisational skills
• Effective communicator and collaborator able to manage competing priorities and stakeholder needs
• Able to support peers as required and manage time effectively

The Weipa operations include two bauxite mines, processing facilities, ship loaders, an export wharf, two ports, power stations, a rail network and ferry terminals, with a workforce of about 1,900 people. Applications close 9 November 2026.
