Junior Backend Software Engineer (Hybrid, Adelaide)

About the role

We are looking for a motivated junior backend engineer to join our small, technically‑focused team in Adelaide. You will work on production‑grade analytics and operational platforms that serve safety‑critical industries across Australia, gaining hands‑on experience with real infrastructure and demanding clients.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement backend services and data‑processing pipelines for operational platforms.
• Write high‑performance, concurrent code that prioritises correctness and maintainability.
• Contribute to API design using REST and gRPC.
• Integrate with SQL and NoSQL databases and message‑driven systems such as Kafka or Redpanda.
• Maintain CI/CD pipelines, participate in code reviews and produce clear engineering documentation.

Required profile

• STEM degree with a solid computer‑science or software‑engineering component.
• Some commercial experience in backend development, even if limited.
• Strong fundamentals in concurrent and asynchronous programming.
• Familiarity with message queues and stream processing.
• Experience with Go or Rust is preferred; Java or C++ is acceptable with strong fundamentals.
• Exposure to containerisation, observability tooling, or secure development in regulated environments is a plus.
