About the role
The Queensland State Emergency Service (SES) is seeking an Instructional Designer to create high‑quality training and learning experiences for its volunteer members. You will work closely with subject matter experts and regional teams to develop curriculum that supports frontline capability across the state.
Key responsibilities
- Review, develop, design and evaluate flexible education and training materials, ensuring delivery within negotiated timeframes.
- Design curriculum products that meet SES capability requirements, align with training standards and comply with legislative and departmental regulations.
- Research, analyse and align curriculum design to industry competency standards and operational capabilities.
- Apply contemporary adult education principles to both eLearning and face‑to‑face delivery.
- Prepare briefs, reports and correspondence related to training curriculum.
- Provide advice, manage projects and recommend improvements in the development of learning materials.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective design and delivery of flexible learning programs.
Required profile
- Possession of a current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or an accredited tertiary qualification in adult education (or ability to obtain within an agreed timeframe).
- Experience in a quality assurance role within a Registered Training Organisation environment.
- Willingness to work nights, weekends and participate in an on‑call roster for emergency operations.
- Ability to travel to rural, remote or interstate locations as required.
Required skills
- Knowledge of eLearning authoring tools such as Articulate or Accelerate.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies.
