HVAC Duct Installer

About the role

Austal, Australia's global shipbuilder and defence prime contractor, is hiring an HVAC Duct Installer at its Henderson shipyard. You will help build and fit out defence and commercial vessels by fabricating, installing and modifying HVAC ducting systems, working safely, efficiently and to high quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Read and interpret drawings, specifications and work instructions to determine ductwork requirements.
• Measure, cut, fabricate and install HVAC ductwork and associated components.
• Assemble and secure ducting systems with appropriate tools, fasteners and sealants.
• Modify and repair ductwork as required during vessel construction.
• Inspect completed work against project specifications and quality standards.
• Maintain safe work practices and comply with Austal's HSEQ policies, and support a clean, organised production environment.

Required profile

• Australian full working rights.
• Trade qualifications in sheet metal fabrication, or at least 2 years' experience in a sheet metal or ducting position.
• Experience in ductwork fabrication, assembly and installation.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications and work instructions.
• Strong attention to detail, teamwork and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Desirable: previous lagging and insulation experience, shipbuilding, marine, construction or heavy industrial experience, and high-risk work licences such as forklift and EWP.

• Measuring, marking and setting out materials accurately.
• Using hand tools and portable power tools.
• Cutting, drilling, forming and modifying sheet metal components.
