Fit-Out Tradesperson (Cabinet Maker/Carpenter)

About the role

Austal, Australia's global shipbuilder and Defence prime contractor, is hiring a Fit-Out Tradesperson (Cabinet Maker/Carpenter) to complete onboard fit-out installations across Defence vessel projects. Working within the Production Fit-out team, the role delivers high-quality workmanship while keeping safety, efficiency and productivity high in a fast-paced shipbuilding environment.

Key responsibilities

• Install cabinets, bulkheads, flooring, ceilings and final fit-out finishes onboard vessels.
• Interpret technical drawings, specifications and project documentation.
• Use hand tools, power tools and trade equipment safely and effectively.
• Maintain quality standards, productivity targets and safe work practices.
• Perform general housekeeping and keep the work area clean.
• Work with supervisors and team members to meet project schedules.

Required profile

• A relevant trade qualification and a Construction Safety Induction (White Card).
• Experience as a Shipwright, Cabinet Maker, Carpenter/Joiner, Shopfitter or similar trade.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, plans and documentation.
• Confidence using hand tools, power tools and associated trade equipment safely.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Ability to work productively with minimal supervision and manage competing priorities.

Required skills

• Sound knowledge of cabinetry installation, cabinet making, shipwright techniques or fit-out works.
• Safe use of hand tools, power tools and trade equipment.
