Horticulture Traineeship (Certificate II)

About the role

Westvic Staffing Solutions, in partnership with Southern Grampians Shire Council, offers a 12-month horticulture traineeship. The trainee learns practical and theoretical skills for the horticulture industry, including plant cultivation, landscaping, parks and gardens, nurseries and town and facility maintenance, while completing a nationally recognised Certificate II in Horticulture through South West Tafe. The host employer is based in Hamilton.

Key responsibilities

• Mow fairways, roughs and greens; rake bunkers and maintain greens, including aeration and pitch repairs
• Plant trees, bushes, shrubs, flowers and turf
• Assist with fertilising and spraying schedules, irrigation maintenance and watering programmes
• Install irrigation systems and water features
• Use lawn mowers, clippers and trimmers
• Assist senior staff with regular gardening and parks and gardens tasks

Required profile

• Current driver's licence and willingness to obtain a police check and a WWCC
• Physically fit and able to work in all types of weather
• Keen interest in nature and horticulture, and a willingness to learn
• Able to work independently or in a team, and to help senior staff

Required skills

• Ability to work with hand and power tools
• Problem-solving and teamwork
