High Voltage Technician

About the role

Powertech, an electrical EPC and services provider active since 1998 across Oil & Gas, Mining, Utilities, Defence, Infrastructure and Energy, is looking for an experienced High Voltage Technician to join its Darwin office on a full-time permanent basis. The role combines local, office and field work, with national travel on a project-to-project basis, and calls for strong theoretical and practical knowledge.

Key responsibilities

• Commission and test HV protection systems, HV plant and power generation systems
• Test protection relays and perform HV primary and secondary system testing in a substation environment
• Prepare commissioning and testing documentation and test plans, and write detailed technical reports after completion of works
• Carry out JSHAs before starting new works to identify hazards and put in place controls

Required profile

• Unrestricted NT Electrical Fitter and Mechanic Worker's licence
• At least 4 years' experience
• Valid driver's licence; HV switching ticket preferred
• Knowledge of relevant Australian Standards
• Proven ability to meet project quality, schedule and budget requirements
• Strong safety awareness, professionalism and communication with internal and external stakeholders

Required skills

• HV/LV transformer testing: Tan Delta, Turns Ratio, SFRA, Dirana, voltage ratio, winding resistance and oil sampling
• Commissioning and testing of HV plant, protection relays and substation systems
