Field Engineer - Mechatronics

About the role

A client, an Australian engineering-led marine robotics company, is recruiting a Field Engineer - Mechatronics for its Darwin operations and maintenance team. The role supports the company's northern fleet of autonomous surface vehicles (USVs) by providing expert electronics and mechanical support so they stay on-water and fully operational. It is initially a 12-month fixed-term contract with a negotiable salary.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with a multi-disciplined team to improve designs, test and troubleshoot sophisticated mechatronics systems in response to operational and production requirements.
• Provide engineering support to the Darwin operations and maintenance team.
• Support the northern fleet by delivering expert-level electronics and mechanical support.
• Work in an unstructured, self-guided environment, applying hands-on experience in building and repairing electronics and mechanical systems.

Required profile

• 3-5 years of experience designing complicated mechatronics systems.
• Ability to read electronic and mechanical schematics to understand system architecture and support deep-level fault finding.
• Experience improving the reliability of systems currently in operation.
• Hands-on experience building and/or repairing electronics and mechanical systems.
• Australian citizenship and the ability to obtain an NV1 security clearance (mandatory).

Required skills

• Proficiency in troubleshooting complex mechanical and electronics equipment, including using test equipment for fault finding.
• Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering.
• Desirable: marine or defence experience; SolidWorks and KiCAD; 24V and 48V systems, low-power solar systems and marine electronics.
