High Assurance Cryptographic Equipment (HACE) Technician

About the role

The High Assurance Cryptographic Equipment (HACE) Technician provides specialist engineering and technical expertise for HACE systems supporting the Australian Defence Force and other government agencies. The role ensures certification, lifecycle support, and governance of cryptographic equipment that secures Australia’s most sensitive communications.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct technical certification and engineering change activities for HACE devices.
• Perform testing and evaluation, develop test plans and reports for HACE equipment.
• Provide specialist advice on in‑service HACE capabilities within assigned technical authority.
• Support defence acquisition projects with engineering and integration expertise.
• Maintain the regulated engineering framework governing HACE management.
• Assist with inspections, audits, and investigations related to COMSEC incidents.
• Deliver technical training and knowledge transfer on HACE equipment.

Required profile

• Significant experience supporting HACE within the Australian Government or Defence environment.
• Demonstrated experience with the TACLANE family of HAIPE devices.
• Strong understanding of engineering governance, technical certification, and change processes.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, Telecommunications, Systems or related engineering discipline.
• Minimum AGSVA NV1 security clearance and Australian citizenship.
