Heritage Consultant (Archaeology)

About the role

Biosis is looking for a Heritage Consultant to join its team on a 12-month contract, with strong potential to move into a permanent role at its Port Melbourne office. It is a mid-level position for someone eager to build a career in heritage, working alongside experienced colleagues. The role suits someone adaptable to different projects and locations, with flexibility and a willingness to travel.

Key responsibilities

• Develop an understanding of site patterning, land and site formation processes, and the survival of artefacts for Aboriginal and historical sites.
• Contribute to Cultural Heritage Management Plans, heritage impact statements and due diligence assessments.
• Lead and contribute to fieldwork on Aboriginal and historical archaeological projects.
• Build communication and consultation skills with authorities, communities, clients, landowners and the public.
• Develop technical report writing skills and understand the different types of reports required.
• Deliver projects on time, within budget and to client requirements.
• Implement Biosis' high standards and manage project budgets, including variations.
• Understand current regulatory requirements and explain them to clients.

Required profile

• Bachelor (Honours) or Master's degree in Archaeology, or a similar qualification.
• Two to three years of experience; relevant experience in Aboriginal and/or historical heritage is preferred but not essential.
• Demonstrated interest in Aboriginal and/or historical heritage.
• Ability to work on site, away from home and in remote locations if necessary.
• Current and valid driver's licence and the right to work in Australia.
