Heavy Diesel Fitter

About the role

We are looking for a Heavy Diesel Fitter to join Acciona Rail’s Melbourne team, supporting the maintenance of rail plant and heavy diesel equipment on both workshop and site locations. The role ensures that all machinery is safe, compliant and ready for operation across major infrastructure projects.

Key responsibilities

• Service all plant and equipment according to OEM specifications and industry standards.
• Perform planned maintenance, breakdown repairs and fault finding on rail and earth‑moving machinery, including tampers, hi‑rail vehicles and ballast regulators.
• Carry out component change‑outs such as hydraulic pumps, cylinders, engines, transmissions and braking components.
• Diagnose and repair faults in hydraulic, mechanical, drivetrain and rail‑interface systems.
• Maintain accurate records of all work in the maintenance system (e.g., LinkedSite) and review Daily Plant Inspections.

Required profile

• Reports to the Plant Manager and works across workshop and on‑site environments.
• Demonstrates a strong focus on safety, compliance and minimising equipment downtime.
• Ability to read and follow OEM service manuals and industry standards.

Required skills

• Hydraulic system maintenance and repair.
• Mechanical system troubleshooting.
• Drivetrain and rail‑interface system knowledge.
• Experience with component change‑outs (pumps, cylinders, engines, transmissions, brakes).
• Proficiency in using maintenance tracking software (e.g., LinkedSite).
