Health and Safety Advisor

About the role

The Health and Safety Advisor works closely with other Health and Safety team members (Senior Advisors, Coordinators) and the wider Delivery Team to implement, support and monitor Health and Safety requirements across the package and the wider Alliance. The role is based at site compounds in Melbourne, with various locations, and reports to the Senior Health and Safety Advisor.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in implementing Health and Safety Management Plans and their sub-plans, and help develop the H&S culture
• Coach, mentor and guide delivery team members on their H&S responsibilities, including system, contractual and legislative ones
• Take part in audit schedules, H&S audits and the follow-up actions they generate
• Implement H&S legislation and processes, and complete, supervise and mentor accident investigations up to Potential Class 2, and take part in detailed Potential Class 1 (ICAM) investigations
• Help prepare SWMS and Construction Method Statements, run risk assessment workshops and influence the use of the risk management process
• Identify H&S training needs and deliver training for staff, consultants and the supply chain
• Keep H&S documentation accurate and up to date, and run regular governance activities such as inspections, audits, breach reporting and remedial action close-out
• Deliver safety messages in daily pre-start meetings and support the Damstra system implementation

Required profile

• Site-based role with site experience; access to pool vehicles during work hours
• Must hold or be completing Cert IV in WHS (Cert 4 Health and Safety)
• Hands-on experience helping supervision and management close out H&E issues and actions
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a wider H&S team, with strong stakeholder relationships

Required skills

• Knowledge of reports and systems, using technology
• Understanding of H&S legislation and risk assessment
