Head of Tax – Australian Investment Manager

About the role

The client is a leading global investment manager with a strong Australian presence. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Head of Tax will lead the Australian tax function, shape tax strategy, and embed tax considerations into the firm’s investment and commercial decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a comprehensive tax strategy aligned with business objectives.
• Provide commercial tax advice on strategic initiatives, transactions and business decisions.
• Lead tax governance, risk management and regulatory compliance across the organisation.
• Partner with senior leaders in Finance, Investments, Legal, Risk and Operations to identify tax risks and opportunities.
• Build and maintain relationships with regulators, external advisers and internal stakeholders.
• Drive continuous improvement of tax processes, governance frameworks and operating models.
• Lead, mentor and develop a high‑performing tax team and succession pipeline.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments to keep the business well positioned.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in investment management, funds management or financial services taxation.
• Background in a leading investment manager, financial institution or Big‑4 advisory practice.
• Strong commercial acumen with the ability to influence executive‑level decisions.
• Proven experience partnering with executive leadership teams and Boards on complex tax matters.
• Demonstrated success in tax governance, risk management and regulatory engagement.
• Collaborative leadership style with a track record of building high‑performing teams.
• Relevant professional qualifications (CA, CPA, CTA or equivalent).
