Head of Enterprise Platforms

About the role

TAL, a life insurer protecting Australians for over 150 years, is looking for a Head of Enterprise Platforms in Sydney. The role leads the strategy, delivery, modernisation and simplification of the enterprise application portfolio, covering Digital Contact Centre, LifeBroker, Finance, Risk, Legal, People & Culture and records management. It brings together business and technology leaders, product, engineering, architecture, cyber, risk and strategic partners to shape roadmaps, prioritise investment and deliver on the transformation agenda, as TAL moves from legacy platforms and data centre dependencies to reusable cloud-native services.

Key responsibilities

• Define and lead the enterprise applications strategy and simplification roadmap, aligning investment and delivery priorities with TAL's strategic objectives and technology roadmap.
• Simplify the application landscape by reducing legacy dependencies, duplicated capability, manual effort, technology complexity, cost and operational risk.
• Lead delivery across critical enterprise platforms, meeting agreed business outcomes within scope, time, budget, quality and risk.
• Lead application readiness for cloud migration and data centre exit, managing sequencing, dependencies, resilience and operational readiness.
• Strengthen application ownership and improve the quality and visibility of application estate data to support investment, lifecycle, consolidation, migration and decommissioning decisions.
• Establish governance and give executive-level visibility of delivery progress, investment, risks, dependencies and outcomes, aligned to risk, cyber, resilience and architecture requirements.
• Build partnerships across business and technology, lead and coach teams, and manage strategic vendors and delivery partners.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in information technology, computer science, engineering, business or a related discipline.
• Significant enterprise applications leadership experience, ideally in a complex, regulated environment.
• Proven experience leading large-scale technology modernisation and transformation across multiple business-critical platforms.
• Strong cloud modernisation experience, including application migration, legacy simplification, data centre exit and operational readiness.
• Strategic portfolio leadership, with experience shaping roadmaps and turning strategy into executable delivery plans.
• Strong executive stakeholder management, commercial, governance and risk management capability.
• Proven people and partner leadership across multidisciplinary teams, senior stakeholders, vendors and delivery partners.

Required skills

• Desirable: project, program, product, agile, cloud, architecture, technology risk or service management qualifications.
• Desirable: vendor, commercial, change management or transformation delivery certifications.
